Santa Barbara Destination Wedding at Third Window Brewing Co.

It was such a pleasure traveling to this destination wedding in Santa Barbara for Elizabeth and Evan. This is such a well traveled, entertaining and outgoing couple and their wedding day was a perfectly unique Santa Barbara wedding!

Elizabeth and Evan found Behind the DJ Booth on Green Wedding Shoes and on Style Me Pretty, where we are a prefered vendor. Since Michael lives in Orange County and Elizabeth and Evan live in Venice they met before another DJ gig in Playa Del Rey.  Evan and Michael shared the same interest in craft beer and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and Michael discovered through getting to know they couple that they all have a shared interest in indie music and 90's hip hop! They also talked about shared love for travel and their recent trip to Thailand. We knew this was a perfect fit for us at Behind the DJ Booth because Elizabeth even mentioned that Michael would have free reign over the music that I played during the reception and wanted to make sure that we played anything to get the crowd going!

We always ask for a Spotify playlist from all our couples so we can really get to know what they really like to listen to and their true musical interests. When looking at their playlist songs from Marvin Gaye, Three 6 Mafia, and The XX stood out and we knew immediately that we were going to have a serious dance party at their wedding!

The venue for their wedding was at Third Window Brewing Company in Santa Barbara, California.  It was a destination wedding for them and most of their guests traveled from the Los Angeles area and others from out of state.  They chose to get married in Santa Barbara since Elizabeth's family have been vacationing there when they were younger, and they chose to get married in a brewery since Evan is a craft beer enthusiast.  The brewery even made a special brew for Evan and served it at the wedding. All of the personal touches that went into the wedding day made it truly unique.

After the music started on the day, different guests would introduce themselves and say that they've heard good things about the Orange County DJ who plays some really good indie music and hip-hop. The crowd was really enjoying music played during the cocktail hour and dinner.  For that part of the evening, we featured songs by Phantogram, SBTRKT, Crystal Castles, Flume, and LCD Soundsystem.  When dancing started, we started with some 80s hits and soon after, played dirty south hip-hop and classic 90's hip hop.  The crowd partied hard (see the grainy photos taken on my phone)!  In one part of the evening, a few guests asked me to play the "Horah", a traditional Jewish chair dance where the crowd lifts up the bride and the groom in the air while each are sitting on a chair. It was a fantastic celebration and I was honored to be a part of the day!
